ANDREW RUSSELL STUDIOS

Presents

A half finished program for the 4 Elements III competition at GameDev.net:

Golf 2D

The Story

Well, basically, I ran out of time to complete my 4E3 entry. Originally, it was going to be a 2D golf game. I got as far as the graphics, so here you have it, a nifty 2D engine-thingy. As an added bonus, I am including the source to the 2D engine bit (but that’s all).

The Elements

Licence

I hope you didn’t expect a legal mumbo-jumbo for this. Basically, the full source is released to GameDev.net only and only for the purposes of making my entry valid. The partial source released in the main archive can pretty much be used for whatever you want, you can complete the project, or use ideas in your own. If you copy large sections or use my code to finish the golf game thing, a proper mention in your credits is required (eg: “portions of this work programmed by Andrew Russell”), however just getting ideas or rewriting it, or using only a few lines, just a special thanks would be nice. Also, it would be nice to get some email to see what you do with the code (slartibartfast00@hotmail.com). (Oh and excuse the bad style in my code)

Important: I am going to tell you this right now. My artwork in not to be distributed, used, modified, adapted, reproduced, etc in any way shape or form except when distributed as part of the original archive. Don’t touch it.

A Few Quick Notes About the Included Source

The source I have included is only to be used as stated in the licence (above).

Basically, it is an “engine” that goes on top of the “Andrew Russell Studios – Standard Classes”, which is my engine or basecode. In other words, don’t expect this to compile strait away. You will need to change a far bit. Any class that starts with an “A” is part of the ARSSC, and is not included.

I suspect it wouldn’t be hard to slap this on top of NeHe’s basecode.

Speaking of NeHe

I’d like to give a special thanks to NeHe and TCS, large amounts of my code for this project is based on theirs. Also a thanks to anyone on Tiberian Adventure and GameDev.net who helped me out. And finally, special thanks to the GameDev.net crew for holding the (always fun) competition.

That’s All, Folks

Yep, that’s all for my Readme. I know that my little thing doesn’t do much, but hopefully the code may help a few of you out.

Thanks for coming,

Andrew Russell

Andrew Russell is the CEO, founder, whatever, of a (non-existent) company called Andrew Russell Studios. He codes every so often in his spare time, when he isn’t busy making other digital stuff (Music, Art, etc), or moderating the forums at GameDev.net (Sound and Music forum) or laying the smack down as a Demi-God of Tiberian Adventure, or spending time in Real Life™ where he is living in Australia and has a wonderful girlfriend and is finishing year 12 (both of which take up lots of time).
