Duck Tiles Level Contest Results

Well, we received a total of 444 entries from 175 individual entrants. For the most part, the levels were very well thought-out, and it was not easy narrowing down the list to the winners. There were many very good levels, and we'd love to give away another 50 prizes for superior levels, but rules are rules.

For the curious. Here are some statistics on the levels received.

Levels shaped like giant ducks

18

Levels that spelled words or initials

25

Levels shaped like the letter X

6

Levels shaped like smiley faces

14

Levels shaped like skulls

3

Levels shaped like American flags

2

Levels with over 50 soaps

14

Levels that looked like company logos

4

There were three judges (John Hattan, Shelly Hattan, and Ernest Pazera). While we had very different judging criteria, we were all able to come to a consensus on a short list of superior levels. Choosing a head-n-shoulders winner out of the crop was not easy, but hopefully you will agree that the levels below are all very well done.

And the winner is. . .

The winner will be receiving an XBox Adrenaline pack, including an XBox console, extra controller, and the games Halo, Dead or Alive 3, and Oddworld Munch's Oddysee

Name: Four

Author: Matt Monroe

Comments: There were a couple of multi-puzzle entries that made the short list, but this one distinguished itself by being the only puzzle to be chosen by all three judges. This level contained a good mix of wall-less puzzles and soap-less mazes. It's clever and well made.

Enjoy your XBox, Matt!

Runners Up. . .
The runner-up levels will all be receiving a copy of Return to Castle Wolfenstein. The games will be mailed out to the winners as soon as they are received.

The levels below are in no particular order.

Name: Counterclock

Author: Jason Shelton

Comments: This one was a good challenge without being impossible. One thing that made this fun was once you thought you were home-free in the spiral part, there was a small challenge waiting for you at the end.

Name: Menace

Author: Jeremy Green

Comments: Jeremy Green had two levels in everyone's short list, but this one was the best of the two. Aptly titled, this one's a challenge, but with a good solution.

Name: J

Author: Jesse Aldridge

Comments: Another maze with blocks, this one was fun and challenging.

Name: Six Ducks

Author: Jonathon Schilpp

Download: Six Ducks.dbd

Comments: Nice simple level. Fun to play, but not too difficult.

Name: Clogged Pipes

Author: Ian Welch

Download: clogged.dbd

Comments: Clogged Pipes was selected as a winner by multiple judges. It's good looking, well-drawn and proportioned, and features several puzzles of varying complexity.

Name: Erik Rounds

Author: Erik Rounds

Comments: While not the prettiest level we received, this level was a great challenge without being overlong or so difficult that it can't be solved without the solution.

Name: Triple Bypass

Author: Ray Vanderborght

Download: triple-bypass.dbd

Comments: This level is a fun one. At first it looks simple because the duck's right next to the drain, but you soon discover that you're a couple of soaps short of getting him home. You've gotta cleverly sacrifice and steal soaps from the other three rooms to complete this level.

Name: Art of Sliding

Author: Stefan Koschik

Comments: While easier than the other multi-puzzle levels, this one distinguished itself with a good mix. The best puzzle of the lot is the one on the left.
