[MDX] Combining different meshes at certain positions to make one mesh?

I have some tree meshes, i loaded them from .x files.
i place them on the terrain according to terrain's height at that points.
But i want to join them in to one mesh to make all trees on the terrain as just one mesh.

I am thinking about adding some nice volumetric lights and fogs to my demo,
for example volumetric moon rays coming in from room windows at night :)
but i dont know the basic principles of these kind o volumetric effects,
what kind of models... |

can we implement beautiful vertex morping ocean shaders on really big ocean models?

We use roaming for rendering very huge terrains with low costs of fps.
but its hard to render that kind of big oceans on that terrain.

i can do perfect mirror for reflections on the water with projective texturing.

I have a car and the metalic effect on my car uses cube textures to render some nice reflections.
i want to render-to-texture around views of car into my textures and create a cube map texture with them.
rendering to texture is easy for me now... |

i'll do frustum culling after i find out how to get most fps out of my tree rendering system.
i dont have so much different trees, maybe i can do instancing.
