This is my first game. This is the only game I have here ( to date ) that uses any original artwork. Let me know what you think.

Not bad.

The game runs smoothly and works pretty well. Just out of curiosity, what did you use to create the background? It looks pretty jazzy.

I used The Gimp. I talk a little bit of how I made the background art in my tutorial "Level 01 [Pong]" at my website.

I don't know if you've played my games, but art is not yet my strong suit. If im not (at all) an artist, do you think the gimp could help my games?

Well I'm certainly not an artist, so I say yes. The Gimp website has a lot of tutorials at different levels to help you. Thats how I found my way around. Also, I find 3D packages such as Blender and Wings3D are easier to create game art with than conventional ways. I can't draw and I'm not a student of perspective or lighting, so I just let the 3D renderer do that. I still have to define 3D shapes, colors, lights, cameras and perhaps a little action. Of course it takes time to learn these tools.

Very well done. The ball usually speeds up after you play for a few seconds. Did you set it like that, or is it just a random coincidence?
