About:
Nanodude is an intense, stripped-down 2D shoot-em-up where you must blast legions of reproducing virus cells and other microscopic nasties.

Posted - 9/16/2005 12:45:32 PM | I really like the music and the graphical feel of the game. I also dig the weapon upgrades.
I don't like the controls, however. The keyboard is just too slow for turning. Maybe you could make the rotation based on the mouse, and you move with the keyboard? (Or perhaps shoot with the left mouse, move forward with the right?)

Posted - 9/16/2005 1:00:21 PM | The keyboard was used because I wanted to give a steady turning spead to make some of the moves more difficult. Admittedly I may have made it too slow. I'll increase the turning spead and see how it works.
Thanks for the criticism, keep em coming.
EDIT:
I checked out faster turning speeds, and in my opinion the game became unacceptably easy. I'll see what other people think of the controls.

The game was coded in C++, using Win32, OpenGl and FMOD.

Posted - 9/17/2005 12:16:02 PM | after playing more, only suggestion i have is, its too easy..
maybe tone down the amount of powerups that spawn. Basically i could just spin my ship around and hit fire rapidly and pretty much clear any level..
other than that its a great game..
id like to see the source as well, see how you did the particle effects..
cheers

Posted - 9/17/2005 1:22:58 PM | Your point about there being too many powerups was very valid. I've uploaded a new version of the game which stunts the ammount of powerups.
I'll upload the code shortly.

Posted - 9/24/2005 1:41:00 AM | Great Game. Very nice twist on Asteroids style games. On thing I had a problem with was I couldn’t shoot while turning and accelerating, Was this intentional? It made it very hard to kill those viruses that shoot the three spinning homing attack at you. I know some keyboards can’t handle certain key combinations But I know mine can do space + up +left/right at the same time.

Posted - 9/25/2005 7:04:48 PM | That is very odd. I'm using immediate input, polling with the GetKeyboardState function. It was definately not my intention to stop you from being able to shoot while turning and rotating, and I honestly don't know what going on on your system if those combinations are supported by other programs.
Thanks for the comment though, and I'll try to fix that bug.
