Posted - 3/15/2005 4:35:08 PM | Hi.
I welcome all comments about the game. It's not very polished at the moment, I hope to add music, sound, and an adventure mode (where the levels are loaded from a file, not randomly generated like arcade mode).
I'm submitting this as my final year project for university so I hope no one minds if I reprint some of your comments in the writeup (which is due soon. ack!)

I couldn't get past the first level. Reminds me of Paperboy and is probably just as difficult.

Posted - 3/16/2005 8:22:27 PM | I only passed level 1 two times. I liked being able to move so far ahead, maybe even too far. Too many things chasing you I think at times, and getting them off your trail requires some skill at times. Cars are big, I guess thats ok, but maybe none in the sidewalk/frontyard areas.
I liked the jumps, thats fun. I liked being able to stop and throw, made it easy to figure how it will hit. It seems to be a little easier some times if you get right next to the houses and throw from there as often as possible. Nuke, Co. houses are funny.
Good luck! Keep it up.

The difficulty curve is pretty steep at the moment, I'm going to balance out the level. At the moment all levels are the same difficulty, they just get longer each time. There's a few tricks to playing that make it easier: brake often, knock down trees (dogs can't get past fallen trees), if you need to destroy a sniper house brake the house before it and throw a brick, and use ramps as much as possible (while in the air you're immune to dogs, cars, and holes).
Thanks for the suggestion with restricting cars to the road, good idea.

Posted - 3/18/2005 6:07:14 PM | Wow, that is a hard game, really cool though. I like how the houses fly away when you hit them, and the nukes are awesome :). I would like to be able to move a little further to the right, I keep trying to dodge holes on that side but I can't. But it plays well and looks good, nice work!

Posted - 3/23/2005 10:05:13 AM | Wow! Awesome game concept! There are so many things that the player must take note of at the same time, very challenging. I've not played paperboy before so i cant make a comparison, but i can say that i've truely enjoyed it. Very addictive.

A very nicely polished 3d engine as well as coulourful, humerous artwork makes this game a nice piece of eye candy which is the icing on the cake. Well done that man :)

Posted - 4/16/2005 7:28:50 AM | Its cool man! I managed to get through stage 1 before I knew how to control it, then once I found out how to control it, it became difficult to get through stage 1. Weird eigh...??? Well done mate, its a great game. -Dhani

Great job, you the most part right the gameplay! its was tight and controlled. And I could dodge when I needed once I got the hang of it. Great job. And good luck.

To the people playing: I discovered that after level three if you just focus on surviving instead of hitting houses, you last longer and since your score doubles with each level you get more points.

Posted - 6/8/2005 12:35:21 AM | Excellent work! Its fun and funny too. Most of all, it has that classic Arcade feel that I miss in pretty much all games out today. The textured 3D surfaces are nice and clean, and the game works on my old Thinkpad T20! Its projects like these that remind me how necessary indie games are.

When its finished I'll include the source with it. It's still a bit messy at the moment.

Good point, you are constrained by an invisible barrier. I've added in some railings along the side to make it clearer.

Shh!

I've been working on it slowly since september 04 but most of the work was done between february and march. It's the first game I've made with C++ and OpenGL so it took me some time learning that. I'm still working on it now, but not as often (get ready for online highscores ).

The snowmen are just obstacles really, they also block bricks and can be used to stop dogs. Originally the game was going to have three stages: normal stage, ice stage and halloween stage. But I haven't designed the levels yet so its all just randomly generated.

Keep up the good work!
PS: Is there anyway that you can remove the cheaters from the highscore board?

Posted - 7/29/2005 9:31:29 PM | Very fun game. Collision detection on the pot holes could be a little better, but then again, I wouldn't have made it to level 4 if they were true to life.
All together it is great.
Keep it up!
