How to Play

There are 3 modes of play - Tournament, Challenge, and Freeplay.

Tournament Mode - This mode allows the player to play each level in a linear competition with three levels of difficulty. First Stone Beach, then Oak Park, and finally Sunset City. Trophies are given to players who win a tournament.

Challenge Mode - This mode allows the player to challenge a specific level at a chosen difficulty. A level may not be challenged until it has been unlocked by playing Tournament Mode. This is a good way to gain experience.

Freeplay Mode - This mode allows you to play with any footbag on any level that has been unlocked by playing Tournament Mode.

The Hacky Sack Game includes interactive lessons which teach you how to play! You can practice at normal or slow speeds as you learn. Make sure to check these out. The Hacky Sack Game supports keyboard and gamepads. The controls for the gamepad can be modified in the Options menu. Also to learn all of the gamepad controls you should read the included ReadMe text file.

Basic moves are displayed on screen with a tips display. This can be disabled later in the Options menu.

To get an idea of what the players are capable of you should watch your opponents in tournament mode.

Each Tournament or Challenge match is 90 seconds long. The timer is located on the bottom right of the screen during a match.

The players energy bar is located on the bottom left of the play screen. At the start the energy bar is full, that is to say the player is fully rested. When a player does a move such as a spin - it will take energy away from the player. Energy can be depleted and this will limit certain abilities and moves. The energy bar naturally reenergizes as the match continues. Doing stalls will help revitalize your player's energy bar.

The dots located to the right of the energy bar indicate how many special kicks the player can do according to how much energy the player currently has. When a match starts the player normally has two dots. This means that the player can perform two special kicks at the start of the match. Special kicks deplete energy quickly.

Above the energy bar is the player's score. It is 0 when the game begins. Points are given for tricks and kicks that the player performs. You must get a higher score than your opponent's in order to win a match. If a match results in a tie then the match will automatically be replayed.

Puffy People Mode - This is a mode that makes all of the characters have larger heads, feet, hands, and smiles.

*(Hold P + U + F and left click the screen in the main menu)

Soccer Ball Mode - In soccer ball mode the hacky sack
(footbag) is turned into a soccer ball.

*(Hold S + R + C and left click the screen in the main menu)

To get all abilities and max your player out

*(Hold E + X + P and left click the screen in the player select menu)

To unlock the Alien player you must get the UFOs to land in the Oak Park level while playing in tournament mode. Then you must win the tournament after which the Alien will be available for play. Add clothes to him in the Options menu.

You can create your own 3D character skins for the Hacky Sack Game. To learn more you should read CharacterCreation.html which is located in the application directory.
